Toxicology

What Is Toxicology?

Toxicology is a branch of biology that studies the effects of poisons on living organisms. Chemicals are everything. From air to food. We all are made of a wide collection of chemicals. About 24,000 different chemicals can go inside your body from just drinking a single bottle of water that you would you get from the grocery store. So understanding how these toxins and how these different chemicals affect bio life is the study of toxicology.

Why is Toxicology important?

When dealing with medicines and toxins, it's probably important to introduce the father of toxicology. Paracelsus in the early 16th century introduced the use of chemical substances, such as minerals, into medicine. He believed "Only the dose is the poison." This stands true to today's studies of toxicology. Even medicines, if given in unregular doses can be harmful or toxic to anyone. So understanding toxicology allows toxicologists to understand the proper amount of medicines that should be given to a person.
